Lego Robotics — Advanced
with Zavod 1-2-3
The advanced group is for children who already have some experience of building and coding, or who are ready for a bigger challenge. Working with LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime, participants design, build and programme working models, then test and refine them — the engineering cycle in miniature. Sessions move beyond first steps into more demanding mechanical design and programming: sensors and conditional logic, gear ratios and mechanical advantage, autonomous behaviour and iterative debugging. Children work in pairs and small teams on themed challenges and longer projects, with the emphasis throughout on finding their own solutions.
SPIKE Prime pairs a programmable hub with motors and sensors and a word-block programming environment that opens a path towards text-based Python, so children can keep progressing as their confidence grows. They develop computational thinking, mechanical reasoning and the resilience that comes from getting something to work on the fifth attempt rather than the first. Sessions are structured but open-ended, so a group can take a challenge further than planned when the ideas are flowing.
